As Seen in Toons . . . updated: 4.16.10
Lt. Col. Chilcote emailed me the other day to inform me that he saw CAP in the newspaper.  Like the attentive PAO that I am, I immediately hopped onto nearly all of the Des Moines Metro newspaper sites hoping I'd find it there, but to no avail.  Luckily he had saved me a copy of our published presence and today at lunch he handed it over to me.  Turns out that my good buddy Rick Lem over at Toons in Ames had taken a few (okay, more than a few) pictures from the Ames Fly In last weekend and published several of them in his newspaper.  I'm happy to report that CAP was seen in two of those pictures!  The first photo (by the way, you can find these on the downloads page) is of a future cadet standing in front of the CAP plane that Maj Murphy and Cadet White flew up for the event and the second photo is of myself, Cadet White and Lt Chilcote.

Thanks Rick!

Red Oak Middle School updated: 3.25.10
RED OAK, IA  4 of our members, including Cadet White and senior members Lt Erickson, SM Koppa and myself (Lt Brace), had the opportunity to go into the Red Oak Middle School on Tuesday March 23rd to help with curriculum in Mrs. Carlson's 6th grade Science class and Mrs. Lee's 7th grade Math class.  We were also able to speak with the entire school in the morning during their Tiger Time where we presented a brief video on CAP and a lot of information.  The day went well and we were very pleased at the interest expressed by students and teachers alike.

Final Results: Recruiting Challenge updated: 3.1.10
RED OAK, IA  I am pleased to announce that as of March 1, 2010, I had 9 applications turned into me for submittal to National Headquarters. I know what you’re thinking, 9. 9 is not 10, and 10 is what we as a group needed to attain for Lt Erickson and myself to throw the detachment a pizza party. While those 9 didn’t quite get us to our pizza party goal of 10, we should be extremely proud of our hard work. That 9 nearly doubled our total membership from two months ago and it has also turned out a fantastic group of new recruits, all of which I am very proud to have as fellow CAP members.

Overall Recruiting Stats as of 3.1.10:
Brace—5
Erickson—2
Murphy—8
Taylor—1

You might notice that there is only one cadet on the previous list. While our recruiting efforts were great, unfortunately I had no applications turned in as being recruited by a cadet during the last two months. As a result, we cannot award the Challenge Coin this time around.

BUT . . . Maj Murphy was triumphant in earning his Senior Recruiting Ribbon with the help of this last push. He will be receiving his ribbon and recognition of this accomplishment at the next Saturday meeting which will be held on March 20th.

We will be doing another recruiting challenge during the months of May and June so get ready! However, if you know of someone who’s interested in CAP and wants to join, don’t wait until then. Applications are ALWAYS accepted so keep working on your recruiting ribbons (cadets need 2, seniors need 7)!
