Senior Members
Cost: $70 for the first year, $60 to renew
every year after
Time
Commitments: Senior members meet during the 3rd
Saturday of each month from 1-8:30pm, except when
another event or activity is on the calendar.
Additionally, senior members are encouraged to come
to the Tuesday night cadet meetings. All activities
held throughout the year are open to all CAP members
and everyone is encouraged to participate. Some
members who have a specialty track or duty position are also required
to show up to the Tuesday meeting(s) where their
talents are required.
Responsibilities: In a composite squadron
setting, senior members are, first and foremost,
responsible for the guidance and safety of the
cadets. In addition, the senior members have the
chance to train and participate in Emergency
Services and Aerospace Education just as the cadets
do. This ranges from completing FEMA and CAP
standardized ES training in a variety of capacities
to, if you're a pilot, flying with cadets on
orientation flights in a CAP Cessna aircraft.
Benefits: CAP members can receive discounts on a
variety of products and services ranging from hotel
rooms and car rentals to health insurance. In
addition, senior members, if they choose to, can
receive training in a variety of areas within
Emergency Services as well as flight training (if
applicable).
For a full list of benefits and provided by National
CAP, please click
here.
Training: There is training in many fields
including flight, Emergency services, and many
others. We always encourage the members to continue
to learn throughout their entire CAP career.
Uniform: There are several to choose from
including the Blue CAP polo, gray slacks and black
shoes and belt. As a senior member you are also
permitted to wear the Air Force style uniform and
the other corporate uniforms as well. Seniors
members are responsible for purchasing their own
uniforms.
Cadet Sponsors
Cost: $30/year
Time
Commitments:
Cadet sponsors are not obligated to attend meetings
but certainly are welcomed to, especially for those who
drive their cadets to the meetings or if they don't live in
Red Oak. Sponsors are also invited to attend
some events and activities as long as they are not
training missions or of a sensitive nature. In
short, you can be as active or non-active as you
wish to be depending on your schedule and desire.
Responsibilities:
We like to think of our cadet sponsors as the
"Squadron Mom" or "Squadron Dad". They play a
vital role in transportation to and from meetings as
well as transportation to and from events (if time
permits of course). This is primarily a
support role not only for your children who are
cadets but for the cadet contingency as a whole to
help us make sure that we are meeting the needs of
everyone involved.
Benefits:
You get a free nametag! :) As a cadet sponsor you
have the unique opportunity to interact with your
cadet at meetings and events while still letting
them feel a sense of independence as they learn and
participate in a group setting of their peers and
senior member leaders.
Uniform:
The provided nametag is all that there is to the
uniform. We prefer slacks and a polo or dress
shirt. At a minimum we request appropriate clothing
with no holes.
Aerospace Educators
Cost: $35/year
Time
Commitments:
Each week during the month we focus on a different
topic or set of topics. Aerospace Education is
the focus on the 1st Tuesday of each month and is
when the educators would be most encouraged to come
to the meetings. On the 3rd Saturday of the
month we also meet to complete additional training
and education on a variety of subjects. These
day long meetings/training days are a good time to
conduct experiments and projects that normally
wouldn't be able to be completed in only 2 hours.
Responsibilities:
CAP promotes the use of the aerospace education
theme to help educators excite and motivate their
students to excel in science, math, technology,
language arts, social studies, and other traditional
subjects. The Aerospace Education Member (AEM)
is a special CAP membership category that entitles
educators to access free products and programs
designed especially for teaching aerospace and
integrating this fascinating subject into the
curriculum. One program that excites AEMs is the
Aerospace Education Excellence (AEX) Award Program.
Other programs, such as the Fly-ATeacher Program,
and products, such as thematic units like the Wright
Brothers and the International Space Station, help
educator members inspire their students to explore
aerospace-related careers. For additional
information on the CAP Aerospace Education program,
go to www.cap.gov/ae.
Benefits:
Aerospace educators are guaranteed access to amazing
teaching tools, including innovative lesson plans
and invigorating textbooks. You will also be
provided national standards-based activity book that
emphasize the connection of aviation and space to
history, math, science and other subject areas.
Aerospace education members can also apply for an
Aerospace Education Foundation grant of $250. And,
through CAP's Fly A Teacher Program, you can take
advantage of a special orientation flight. Plus, you
can participate in the biannual National Conference
on Aviation and Space Education, where you can
expand your classroom's horizons by interacting with
astronauts, pilots and leaders in aviation
education. Plus...

Cadets
Cost: $37/year
Time
Commitments:
Cadets meet every Tuesday night from 6:30-8:30pm and
one Saturday a month from 1-8:30pm, except when
another event or activity is on the calendar. Aside from these meeting
times there are many additional activities held all
throughout the year ranging from SAREXs and fly-ins
to encampments and special conferences. While
we do recommend that all cadets participate in these
meetings and activities, we understand that kids
these days are active in many other activities like
sports and church. Schoolwork and family
should always come first and we are very willing to
make certain accommodations to help our cadets
succeed to the best of their abilities while still
maintaining their other commitments.
Responsibilities:
All cadets are expected to maintain proper respect
and common courtesy to everyone they come into
contact with, be it a CAP member or not. In
addition, cadets who rise in rank are also expected
to play a role in the mentoring and leadership of
all other cadets regardless of rank.
Benefits:
All cadets are entitled to their first set of dress
blues (pants, shirt, belt and hat) courtesy of the
Air Force at no additional charge. This uniform is
the basic uniform that all cadets wear to meetings
and events when representing CAP.
Additionally, cadets are able to and have the option
of purchasing (at their own expense) a set of BDUs
(battle dress uniform) to be worn during SAREXs and
any event/activity which is Emergency Services
related. When a cadet is promoted or earns a
ribbon, these awards and honors are denoted on their
uniforms and gives the cadet a sense of pride and
accomplishment. All cadets also have the distinct
privilege of being able to experience both powered
and glider o-rides (orientation flights) at no cost
to them in CAP planes. These o-rides are a
wonderful opportunity for our youth to discover the
wonder of flight and to learn the mechanics of
physics and engineering. |
