The Southwest Iowa Region has a long and
rich history when it comes to the Civil
Air Patrol. Beginning in the
1940s, CAP set up a base of operations
at the Red Oak Municipal Airport and for
the next several decades became known
for their dedication to their community
and surrounding communities as well.
Times have come and times have gone, and
while there have been a few periods of
inactivity, the Civil Air Patrol has
remained one of the most recognized
civic organizations in and around Iowa.
In June of 2008, a new group of members
brought CAP back to Southwest Iowa and
with it a new crop of volunteer members
and exciting opportunities for Red Oak
and its surrounding communities.
Since the recent re-birth of CAP in Red
Oak, youth and adults alike have formed
a cohesive group of like-minded
individuals who feel that service to
their community, state and nation is
ever a main priority. These
dedicated members of CAP have given of
their time and talents to assist in
state-wide fly ins and air shows, search
and rescue exercises and missions and to
the well being of their local
communities in various ways.

Have you ever seen the cadets running
across the Airport's apron around 7:30pm
on a Tuesday night? Or out on the
apron in full BDU gear with brightly
colored orange or yellow safety vests
on? How about around the airport
carrying a GPS unit or funny looking "H"
mast?
While
a lot of what we do is training for
emergency services or volunteering or
even book testing, we do have a wide
variety of activities and events that go
on throughout the year which all of our
members are encouraged to participate
in. Even if you're not that into
aviation, we have something for you.
So if you're free on a Tuesday night
from 6:30-8:30, or if you're looking to
get out of the house on the 3rd
Saturday, come on over to the airport.
Come meet us, come see what we do.
Sit, stay awhile, relax and get know us.
If you can't make it to a meeting please
feel free to email us or give us a call,
we always have time to make new friends. |
